If NDA get's 273 (which is highly unlikely) then Advani (no Modi...otherwise also Modi's communal qualifications are pretty widespread outside of Gujarat). I like the guy but seriously PM of India and CM of Gujarat are 2 different things.
And if Third front comes to power (they just need around 200 as once they get 200 there will be breakaway groups from UPA and NDA so they can touch 273)
then we will see real democracy (read lust for power)

You have hit the nail right on the head. They issued 225000 H1b's between the years and 2000 and 2002 but the GC quota remained the same. Also, there is no quota for H1 (large # goes to India/Chine) but there is a quota for GC.
The idea is they want to control it so that only a third of the ppl who come on H1 end up getting a GC. They make the GC process hard one way or the other. Either you get stuck in the labor queue or in the retrogression queue. The average time to get has always been 4 years. Some ppl get lucky and get it in less than 3 and some get unluck and spend over 5 years trying to get it!
Ultimately the question for everyone is how long are you willing to put your life on hold? If you wait long enough you will get it. They seldom reject cases (unless it was a fraudulent case).
Here are my thoughts not legal advise:

I hope that you are more qualified than I am and I am not going to waste your time or my time contesting it. However, you could be a little more humble. I would also like to point out that your high qualifications may be failing you in your critical and deductive reasoning. Refer to the highlighted portion of your quote. If I may reason on an analogous note, you are saying that the current IIT JEE examination lets in a few people who aren't qualified. So by making the examination more tougher, it has more chances of letting in unqualified people. Needless to say, I am stumped.

I really don't see how removing the per country ceilings alone without increasing the anual quota will help the entire comminity. If you do that alone all it will do is make the date retrogressed for all the countries even further. So where's the gain?
Getting the anual quota increased, not counting dependents in the quota and recapturing visas from passed years will help EVERYBODY.
If people want to think that something petty as removing the per country quota is going to solve all our problms then all the best (and God bless us all) ! :cool:

For the most part I think you're right. When I did my master's we were less than 10 white people in 200 in that major. Most of the indian people in there (about half of the 190) were H4s studying while the spouse came on H1 directly from India. And while I had to pay international tuition they got the in state resident tuition.
When I finished my degree might I add in the top 5 of those 200 I had a hard time finding a job while my colleagues each knew someone who helped them land a job a lot easier. I did ok for myself in the end and I have many Indian friends so don't take this as an anti-indian post. But there are definitely advantages to be part of a big group that is concentrated in an industry.
That being said, I don't think that we would be having this discussion in a normal world in which the GC numbers are enough. So stop the bickering and work towards increasing those numbers. That will make life easier for everybody.
If the spouses are allowed to work, then their one or two years salary is more than the international fee that you paid. Who is the biggest loser.
H4 people going to college is just a miniscule compared to the number of desi students who come here with a good GRE and GMAT scores.

Hello Sir,
I am in a process of getting name change for my wife on pending I485. This is because her first name is given as 'No Name Given' by USCIS on the I485 file, EAD and A.P. As she did not have first name in passport.
We recently got her name change on passport by adding my(husbands name) as SURNAME. Now we want to refelect this change on EAD and 485.
Sir, can you please let me know the process of amendment to get name change on the file. What applicaton do I need to fill, and what documents should i send with the form. Can I do it on my own or do i have to go thru a lawyer.

Also out of the 65K H1 visas that were available since 2003, most of the Visas were consumed by the Big Indian companies.
Remember when Congress sent letters to the Big Indian companies, there was data related to how many companies applied for how many Visas.
AFAIK it was in the range of 25k-35k per year combined by all these companies that filed H1s .
One thing to note is, they do not sponsor GCs for all the applicants.They do them very rarely for the people who are in their 5th to 6th year of H1.Could be in the range of Hundereds and not thousands comapred to the people count they have in US.
One important point that we seem to be missing is that there are about 50,000 Indian STUDENTS (like yours truly) who come to the US each year. Most of them are grad students and invariably all of them apply for EB based GC......think about it : 50,000 students each year and even if you assume half apply for GC - that makes it 100,000 PRIMARY GC applicantions from India alone over a four year period - staggering number........

This is a question to the attorney.
There has been several posts in this site as well as other sites about the recent PIMS delay for stamping in Chennai and other consulates abroad. (That is visa extensions based on approved I-140). In my case i am in 6th year of h1b and am eligible to get 3 years extension as my I-140 was approved more than 2 years ago.
Some members had said it takes anywhere between 10 days to more than a month or so.
Please advice us who are waiting for visa extensions based on approved I-140, as to what we should do to mitigate this pims delay.
Because people like me get 2-3 weeks holiday to go back home and if the stamping gets delayed then everything including our job is at risk.

When SL gained independence of course, things changed so that formerly discriminated Sinhalese started getting their fair share of thse opportunities. Mind you that Sinhalese are after all 75% of SL. I dont blame you for your post as you are singalese. However, don't try to hide the truth. Your post itself has the answer. British, did not discriminate the singalse. Though, they ruled India and SL, they always respected the skills and knowledge. Thatswhy, tamils were in good position before 1948. SL denied the voting rights to estate Tamils and want to keep them as slaves. 33% Tamils become 20% because of that act, apart from mass killing of Tamils by SL. SL are still doing forced/barbaric sterilization on Tamil women. The undeniable truth is SL did not want to Tamils to overtake them (pollitically, socially, economically,); though they are the natural born citizen of SL.
I certainly blame GOI, for its mercyless view on Tamils, as they are killed in India's Doorstep. I dont blame one guy saying "its shame to carry the Indian passport".

The idea in having multi member constituencies was to prevent domination of minorities by a future nationalist government.
As for "formerly superior Tamil competitiveness", I am sure what you refer to is, the fact that during the British period, the Tamils were given the lion's share (pardon my pun) of all the civil service and other administrative jobs as part of their divide and Rule policy. Do you know what he did to Kotla Vijay Bhaskar Reddy, P.Janardhan Reddy. This gunda YSR was involved in large scale communal violence in Hyderabad, just to get into power by denigrating then CM Marri Chenna Reddy Reddy (Dec 1990) and was upset when Nedurumalli Janardhan Reddy was made CM. More then 400 innocent people were killed who have nothing do with YSR . Caste, religion are excuses by people like you to support that barbaric YSR.

Y.S.R used his position to bring Christian institutions into the decision making loop of the TTD. There was a huge surge of churches along the roads leading to the holy shrine and a recent auction of Hindu temple land on Tirumula Hills.
