Is there certain minimum numbers of days one has to stay with the sponsoring company after getting the Green Card.
In my case I have been working with my current employer since Sept-2001 (almost 7 years).
Green card labor started in Dec-2001 and I-485 was filed in May and approved June, 2008.
I was in the middle of using AC21 just before my GC got approved, hence this urgency.
It is normally recommended to work with the sponsoring company for at least 6 months.

hi! fantastic idea... this will exclude me if this legislation is for primary home only. but if includes any home, i am willing to buy one more home...
in any case, i would suggest that this content be edited and the housing problem and our solution to it be brought closer together and upwards in the content... the IV community's pain can be sent downwards...
great stuff... i will write to people...
As completely unrelated these two issues are (from a law maker's perspective) on a normal day, these are possibly those times when each of these issues can help the other.
IV has been discussing about the possibility of one for two solution (partial). The idea is to request congress to exempt EB applicants & their dependents from numerical limits of the Immigrant visas, if they buy a home. It is my belief that market sentiment is the most important thing in any financial market(s) and the housing prospects look pretty bleak. There are lot of members in the EB community that have NOT bought their own home, even though they could afford one because of the uncertainty with EB GC. IV's idea is to bridge the financial committees and judiciary committees in the House/Senate and see if corresponding Chairman/Ranking members are willing to listen. Things are moving so fast with the 700bn USD bail out plan and we will NOT have time to do things the normal way, through our counsel. We have to present this idea to the corresponding staff members of key members of congress (see list below) and see if this gets traction now or going forward.
Please do not bring EB-5 discussion/comparison here. The proposed partial solution is different from EB-5 in that EB-5 investors invest money and we are investing in our future with a genuine intention of making USA our permanent home.
If you already have a home, thats fine. Any such legislation will reduce the wait times in EB categories and we need housing markets to rebound for a safer economy before the ripple effects are felt every where.

Email Subject: Proposal to alleviate current US Housing/economic crisis
Content/Message
SUMMARY
This proposal alleviates the current US economic crisis, by motivating the US high skilled, legal immigrant workers to purchase homes. The size of this immigrant population is approximately 800,000 individuals. This effort if successful would inject up to US$ 20Billion approximately into the economy (approximately US$ 100 Billion in houses sold across the country) , while at the same time directing this money into the root cause of the economic crisis the illiquidity of the national housing market. The above calculation is done
assuming a median US home price of $212,400 and buyers making a down-payment of 20% of the cost of the home. Roughly estimating 400,000 buyers.
BACKGROUND
Undoubtedly, we are all devastated by the shake up on Wall Street in the past 15 days. Experts agree that the underpinning problem is the housing crisis caused by sub-prime mortgage loans. Many of us, who cannot afford our monthly mortgage payments are losing homes and putting them up for sale and foreclosure, which further adds to the crisis. At the same time, most of the Employment-based (EB) immigrant community would like to purchase homes and make the United States a permanent home for their families. These EB immigrants however, are living in a state of limbo, mostly in rental apartments because of the delays and uncertainties involved with the EB immigration procedure. The wait times in EB categories are exacerbated by the delays in processing by USCIS, even though eligible applicants have filed for Permanent Residency also known as Adjustment of Status. Such processing delays have resulted in the wastage of 218,000 immigrant visa numbers (Page 52 of USCIS Ombudsman Annual report 2007). The current Department of State visa bulletin shows 7+ years of wait times in certain categories. We strongly believe that legislation can be worked out in such a way that the housing markets all over the country can move towards recovery, while at the same time motivating the Green Card applicants to catalyze this recovery.
It should be noted that this proposal by no means brings more immigrant workers into the US. The workers in the EB, skilled category are already present in the US, doing skilled jobs that no US worker is available to do. They are part of the long queue of backlogged cases that USICIS will eventually process; however, this wait can take years and in that case could not be used as a tool to minimize the course of the current economic crisis.
SOLUTION
Congress can pass legislation that exempts EB green card applicants and their dependents from the numerical limits of visa numbers, provided applicant(s) have bought a home making 20% down payment on the sale price of the home, for a time period deemed necessary by the congress.
How can Employment based Immigrants help alleviate the housing problem?
(1) Employment based immigrants are highly skilled and are employed in occupations such as Software, IT, Health care, Energy, Finance, Education and Research & Development across the United States.
(2) Average income of these individuals/households is around 65,000/130,000 USD.
(3) All these Employment based immigrants have gone through Department of Labors recruiting process, which certifies that there is no willing, able and qualified US Citizen to do the job.
(4) Most of the Employment based immigrants have excellent credit history and good source of income to make the payments needed for their home mortgage.
(5) By requiring a 20% down payment from this group of buyers, Congress can directly channel this money to where it is need most at the banks.
(6) Employment based green card applicants have been living in the United States for 6-8 years. Many of them have US graduate degrees in their fields of expertise. These applicants are well versed with the American culture and will not change the cultural landscape.
(7) Financial burden on US government and treasury will be reduced drastically if the glut of houses in the market decreases.
As a member of the community that wants to make the US its permanent home, I want to contribute to a solution that helps USA and US during these tough times. I sincerely believe that the 30 year commitment on mortgages by Employment based immigrants in the housing market, backed by solid, risk free mortgages can turn the down ward spiral in the housing market into a upward spiral.

friends,
you have 29 people in favor.
great! each one needs to put their time and money where their mouths (mouses) are.
i suggest: take up a collection, then go get top notch legal opinion.
until you do this, no point going forward, this is going to be a very
important step.
c'mon folks step up...get a collection plate out and open your pockets.
It is also very important that the people voting in favour are serious and will not drop out.
Lets not cajole or motivate people - let them come in by themselves and vote on this.
Those who vote on this thread, please update your profile information on IV, give your valid name, valid email id, valid phone number at the least so that you can be counted on.

We should follow up on this. US Economy really can take advantage of our buying power. If they give us GC, people will start buying and stop sending their savings to off-shore. Also, buying each house comes with at least 50K other expenses (remodelling, furniture etc) and that will also help the economy.
IV should follow up on this topic with Lawmaker and see if they can understand the logic here.
I can't concur with you less, we need to send this message to American people, also immigrants in this country are the ones, who start maximum numbr of small businesses, more number of borrowing of laons from banks etc
Lets make something happen,

Yes, now that does look fair to me.
Even if we raise the limit to XYZ from 140000, if we still continue with 7% quota then applicants from India/China/Philippines/Mexico would still be retrogressed. It is not correct.
Let everybody have a go at GC and let it be FIFO, irrespective of the nationality. This is EB and why use diversity if we do not use at the initial stages of bringing people from other countries on H1/J1/L1. These are the people who apply for GC.
1) Increase GC numbers.
2) remove per country cap
3) Remove dependents from GC numbers.
All above should go in simultaneously for a 'FAIR', 'NON_DISCRIMINATIVE' solution.

Is the new Obama Administration going to consider "Instant GC" if we buy a House ? I'm thinking about the huge inventory of vacant house and how many could be bought up by GC holders... Its probably a fraction - Isn't it ?
Thanks jungalee, for writing on this issue, that makes two of us. I think everything done by over 1000/2000 people together and every subject covered in letters from over 1000/2000 people makes it to the top. Most half educated (which is worst than illiterate) usually give priority to their petty differences and find reasons not to participate, which is why they remain "wise fools".
It will definately help to draw attention to our issues if more people in the community will participate.

Applicant gets the peace of mind and can go around buying houses, changing jobs etc whereas it is just a procedural change for USCIS.
Who said you cannot buy a house on just h1b? Or change jobs while on EAD? Such would be their defense for the argument above.
Peace of mind, my friend, does not comply with the objectivity of the argument. Also, it's very subjective too. People that have H1B, would be peaceful if they get their I140 approved, people that have GC would imagine how peaceful it would be if only they had citizenship.
The incredibly long wait to process the backlog is simply not acceptable. With a professional shelf life being 30 odd years, one cannot afford to spend 50% of that time just waiting to be integrated in the system. Numbers don't lie.
As i have been saying - introducing reform bills and converting them to legislations is our only way, right? Let's put these numbers together as a motivation for the reform bill and seek solutions.

I find it abominable that there are still some humans(?) left in this century who want special benefits based on their race and country-of-origin in this 21st century !
It's time people were measured on merit instead of he is Indian, Chinese or some other nationality. Eliminating country quotas is part of IV strategy on the homepage. If someone has issues with it, well you are working against IV strategy !
Stop dividing people based on ethnicity - Indians, Chinese and others. Every one deserves equal opportunity, not based on their country, race or color (all abominable ideas to me) , but purely on merit.

That's why I say read everything I write then you wouldn't be here with your rant about hate crap.
Also no I never went through the numbers from VHP/RSS.As some one from Hyderabad I'm very well aware about how good the official stats are.I'm aware of the tricks wherein a minority family of 15 says they are just 4 .
A quick fact check : Muslims are about 13.5% and christians are about 2% of india's population. So instead of 30% of india belonging to these two groups per your numbers, it is actually closer to 15%.
I must say you defined yourself right.Educated Illiterate.I'll give that one to you.
A lie told 100 times can be made to look like truth. You can throw this crap at any anyone trying to reason out sense into your types.

Post Tsunami many villages (entire villages) were abused and converted.(People who lost almost everything in the calamity suddenly have all the time in the world to think about religious freedom and conversion volunraity right?)
Just know this you are fooling no one with words like secularism, religious freedom which you use when it suits you.
Quite a religious freedom .
You have something sensible to say start saying with facts. Not with that tried out 'spreading fear and hatred' crap.
It is religious freedom, not religious conversion. And thanks for enlightening us about the global plan to decimate indians by racking up numbers on their side. Are all of the indians coming to US have a similar plan because I am not aware of it.
Spreading fear and hatred using lies and stoking communal feeling to get votes is nothing new. Seeing educated people do it with such fervour is new.
Shows your desperation. Please don't turn this into personal attack or religious attack.Talk sensible stuff or resign.I won't take your personal digs.

When India shines with the efforts of sensible people you shine too(only to come to US and talk about 'fear and hatred crap')
If India sinks because of your illiterate tactics, know this, you may be fine but there will scores of people from all religions in not so good situation as the selfish breed like you would be in.

But you get those numbers from VHP/RSS. Check it tomorrow and it could be close to 40% !

I forgot to mention something - If you have worked here for 7-8 years, do not go home till you complete 10 years and accumulate 40 points in Social Security System. Once you have 40 points accumulated, you are entitled to get your money after the age of 65. I have spent 7 years and I have 28 points in the system. May be that's why H1-B was only given 6 years, you pay Social Security, Medicare and get nothing but a thank you from both the systems. I will make sure that I get 40 points and then only I will make a move. And yes, whether you are Indian/Pakistani/Polish.......does not matter, you accumulate 40 points, you will get the benifit. If you do not believe me, go to http://www.ssa.gov/immigration/
Guys, let me know if you feel otherwise.

We have taken these ideas to executive and legislative branches of the government. Our suggestions/proposals have been taken up at the top most level. This has been discussed more than few times with favorable consideration. Without being able to share the specifics, we have received extremely positive feedback for our suggestions. Specific events have to occur before this and similar ideas could possibly be considered in the new administration.
Thanks,
its the right time. two birds with one stone. lets keep pushing for it. go IV

You claim that you dont know him and your only knowledge of him is through reading the news and yet you argue against those ruled by him. Did it ever occur to you that these people might know more things (that are not reported) than you do ?
Welcome dealsnet reddy.
IV have some threads about unrelated issues. But many replied because it is related to home country.
But yesterday many people put funny posts regarding a second time elected CM, made me a bad feeling. Some one want to see his son also want to be killed. It means he want to see YSR family perished. No one put a comment like this when terrorist Kasab went rampage in Mumbai, no one want his family to be killed. This shows Kasab is better than DR. YSR Reddy ???. Educated people must behave responsibly.
THIS ALL SHOWS, THE THE POSTS AGAINST HIM IS PARTISAN. SRK AND YSR ARE DIFFRENT. SRK done it for publicity for his film.
If he is bad, no one vote for a second term. First time in AP, Congress CM completed 5 year term and elected for the second term. I don't know him. But reading from the online news, the comments which I have seen is very disturbing. Five people lost their lives. All family members are in a shock. One of the pilots wife is still not talking, becuse of the shock.
SEE FROM BJP FIRST TIME FOR AN OPPOSITION LEADER:
BJP President said as a mark of respect for the late leader, BJPs flag would fly at half mast at the party headquarters. Party leaders said this is perhaps for the first time that partys flag will fly at half mast following the demise of a leader of the opposition party
Many states declare public holiday for his respect. These are ruled by other parties (Karnataka, TN etc..)

Wrong! Stop assuming dude. People are here because they need the Green Card. We don't take an oath to renounce loyalties when we get it. Of course your intention is clear and I am thankful that we Indians don't need to count on you. Of course, its interesting that you are quite happy being a US Citizen when it's the US which has called the LTTE a terrorist organization. Hmm, I hope you did your research. Anyway, too late. We don't need you anymore in India and like I said earlier, good riddance. All the best!
Thanks for being the self-designated, unpaid spokesperson for "we indians" and keeping track of accountable indians :)

Agreed !!
These days i'm driving back from work instead of taking the Train/subway because my client location changed and i built this habit of listening to
Talk radio by guys like Howie Carr , Michael Savage etc.. ( WRKO 680 at Boston) and they really influence Public decision....
They were beating the s*** out of Bush, Ted kennedy because of CIR ( atleast verbally ) and calls after calls were coming from local american Public...
But our story may not be very interesting for Locals - so talk radio probably won't take it up as a Topic ???
Yeah seriously. Do you know that a lot of talk shows and their hosts have played a significant role in pulling CIR down? If they can do it, we can do it too. Go ahead and digg the stories
